Be Like Jim – Larry Hennessey

Be like Jim.

Here’s how:

Jim Doucet was a wiry Canadian classic who was born in New Brunswick and claimed the Doucets were some of the first voyageurs to show up on Canada’s shores. His physical presence suggested a canoe worthy shortness of stature with broad shoulders to tote bails and the like.
Jim spent his early life in the Navy. He couldn’t swim which was one of the requirements to join. The test was to make it across the pool. Jim jumped in, sank to the bottom and walked to the other side along the floor of the pool and dragged himself out. This amused the Officer in charge so much that he was given a pass.
Can’t swim? Be like Jim…and get past it.

After his stint in the Navy and many years of travel and hi jinks he took his talents to Canada’s north and was mine manager in Cassiar. Making sure the mine operation ran smoothly and ensuring the people working there were well treated and well fed. Building a caring community that nurtured families and loners alike .

Be like Jim..get the respect of the workers and owners. Level the field.

If things went bad , this is the guy you wanted to be with.
Catch fish and smoke it? Sure.
Use every bit of wild game and thank it for the honour? It’s right.
Pick blackberries and produce the finest tasting wine? Of course.
He was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, mechanic, locksmith, and all round support system.
He knew instinctively what needed to be done and often offered to do it.
He always had a ready joke or observation to put things into perspective.
If you could call this man your friend you had a solid bond that people strive for in this life. If you needed him he was there.

Be like Jim…Be a great friend.
